Need some Info on Ubuntu AMD distro ???

It should work. The easy way to check is to boot from the Live
CD. This will soon let you know how compatible it is. I've just "been
there, done that" with a very similar spec HP/Compaq.

Don't know about Gateway, but the HP/Compaq thingy had a "make
recovery" utility that writes a bootable version of the install partition
to 10 (that's right, TEN) CD-R disks! Guess that Gateway has something
similar that allows you to blow the whole XP away and recover later (if
ever needed). Be warned - takes hours.
