I am having a similar problem with Kaffeine. I have a large repositiory
of music vidoes, AMVs (Anime Music Videos), mp3s and other media content
on an external USB HDD. I can play them fine one-at-a-time with MPlayer
however, this is very inconvenient for creating playlists of music
videos on-the-fly. From my USB HDD, Kaffeine tells me that it can only
open local files. I copied a few of the files down to a local partition
and Kaffeine played them without a hitch. I'm using a dual-boot machine
with limited HDD space and am planning on building a server to store my
media content. However, without the ability to play back my content in
a polished app, I may need to move away from KDE in search of a native
media player with all of the features I want. I love KDE and would
rather figure out how to make this work for me.
