If you have KDE installed you can do this:
1. Open Konqueror
2. In the address bar type:
smb://server/share
Done. If you need to authenticate with the windows machine, it will prompt
you for credentials. If you credentials are part of windows active
directory, then you'll need to prefix your user ID with the domain name and
a backslash, eg, Username = "DOMAIN\userid"
I believe Nautlius may have something similar to KDE's "smb://" URI handler
too, but I haven't used Gnome in a very long time. Sorry.
