Did you set up all applications to use alsa for output? They all have a section where you can select between OSS, ARTS, ESD, ALSA... sometimes others. Look in preferences for all those apps and make sure they all use alsa. Also, go to System>preferences>multimedia systems selector and make sure alsa is enabled both for source and for sink. -- louis_nichols
