Dapper installation hangs

I am trying to install Dapper flight 6 on an AMD64 system. 
I am using the i386 kernel.
Installation goes fine until I get to the installation of the base system. 
The install hangs at 6%, Retrieving libss10.9.8...
md5sum on .iso was checked. 
The system was running Hoary without problems.
This is a clean install. 
Any help would be appreciated.
