apt-get strangeness

sudo apt-get install fglrx-driver produces this...

Package fglrx-driver is a virtual package provided by:

You should explicitly select one to install.
E: Package fglrx-driver has no installation candidate
apt sources has uni and multi-verse selected...
apt-get update/upgrade runs ok...
tried installation of the xorg-driver-fglrx (installed ok)
same message appears.
what am i missing?
