Update notifier b0rked w/update

The output of 'apt-get -s dist-upgrade' declared, "197 upgraded, 2 newly 
installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded."  When all was said & done, the 
update notifying daemon is missing.  I can't find it in the Adept pkg 
listing --Gnome's is there, though-- and a deliberate search through the 
output of the dist-upgrade command revealed no removal of said daemon.

This can't be normal, can it??
