DLL vs Shared Library

Hey,
I know it's odd to ask a Windows question on a Linux forum, but on the
recent thread where I asked about clearing my RAM a bit Dana gave me a
link which in turn said that Linux' shared libraries are.. well shared,
among applications. Of course, I knew that, why else would they be
called shared libraries.
Now my question: Does this mean that this is *not* true for Windows
DLLs? Do Windows apply reload the same library redundantly for every
application that uses it? I can't belive that could be true (think of
the core system librarries!). Help?
Cheers,
Daniel.
