Hmm. Well, then I think I'm stumped. You're not using some other shell
besides bash, are you? And have you looked at the BOINC FAQ perhaps?

I personally never bother with the BOINC GUI client... Other than to
change a couple settings every once in a while. Normally, I'm just
running the command line client, so if I absolutely need to change a
setting with the GUI, I just copy and paste the URL. Now an optimal
solution, but it works, I guess.
