Link to Browser from other apps

Im running Seti with Boinc and I have a slight problem.
I get thi message when I click on the links to my account
from within the program:
    Boinc Manger tried to display the web page
    but could couldnt find a web browser. To fix this,
    set the environment variable BROWSER to the
    path of your web browser then restart the
    Boinc Manager.

What does this refer to?
