X weirdness

As in debian it is in /etc/X11/xserver. They are identical when I
diff'ed them.

I will try redoing things in a day or two. Regrding the comment about
kernels, generally, I compile my own to keep things to a minimum. On my
sarge machine, I am running 2.6.16 (vanilla) with Nvidia 8178 driver.
Will try the same on dapper and come back.
