apt/dpkg getting wedged, config files being overwritten, security
breaches... Several dozens are known to me personally and I know that
several hundreds if not thousands of such cases should exist judging by
the errors people get. Most users can't solve it other than by
reinstalling.

To me automatix is a quite destructive virus.
