Okay, I did an easy test: I started Windows XP, logged out and selected
"Pause session". The monitor and hard disks instantly went off, as
Ubuntu does. Then I tried hitting the keyboard... nothing happened.
Then I just pressed the power button, and WOW, 3 seconds later the
desktop was back ! Absolutely super fast, and super smooth and polished.
I mean it didn't look like "X" (whatever its windows counterpart is
called ;-) was starting (black screen for some time, then some
flickering). It was basically perfect, really impressed.
So my motherboard, though aging, is perfectly up to the job, I am
delighted ! :o)

So whatever goes wrong with suspend to RAM in Ubuntu, at least now I
know it's 100% a Linux problem.
I welcome input from the devs though : shall I file a bug report, or
should I wait a few months for the whole thing to mature a bit ?
I don't want to file a bug report if it's only going to flood Malone,
annoy the devs, and nothing will/can be done about it in the current
state of things...
