Hi Luca!

Two different parts of printer support HPLIP (driver and accessory support)
and CUPS (Application to Drivers Connector).  See Below:

HPLIP link:

Cupsd link:

http://linux.about.com/library/cmd/blcmdl8_cupsd.htm

See the link in the above to cupsd.conf for an idea of cups linking and
control options.

I believe you would do well to keep them both.
