As far as I have heard, it uses dpkg --force-depends, which will install
the package even if the dependencies are screwed up. While it mostly
will work for installing that package, it screws up the package database
in the process.

I wouldn't say it's not "the Ubuntu way" - no sensible distro would act
like that
