breezy - dapper upgrade broke wireless

On a Toshiba Portege 3500 with a Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI card.

I've googled and hit the forums but none of the dapper wireless issues
seem relevant from what I can tell.

I first noticed the issue when booting and it hung on "Loading
hardware drivers" and then on "Configuring Network Interfaces". I hit
ctrl-c on both the get it to boot. Ethernet works fine.

lspci doesn't reveal any wireless card, but

tslater at hermes:~$ cardctl ident
Socket 0:
product info: "TOSHIBA", "Wireless LAN Card", "Version 01.01", ""
 manfid: 0x0156, 0x0002
 function: 6 (network)
Socket 1:
 no product info available
Socket 2:
 no product info available

After trying to configure wireless and running /etc/init.d/networking restart:

eth1: unknown hardware address type 801
eth1: unknown hardware address type 801
Listening on LPF/eth1/
Sending on LPF/eth1/
Sending on Socket/fallback
Moving from lan to if-pre-up,eth1,lan
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device eth1 ; Invalid argument.

Other results from iwconfig, ifconfig, dmesg:
