The core MP3 patents are owned and actively enforced by a German
company. The European Union is not even remotely a haven from software
patents; see http://www.ffii.org/ for details.

Note that most of the problems surround patents, not copyright licences,
although some of the most painful issues surrounding DVDs are connected
to the DMCA in the United States so SuSE may be able to circumvent some
of those if they don't have any US mirrors.
