Some usability ideas for Ubuntu

You mean it doesn't involve bizarre text strings reminiscent of what I

It does?  When I move my cursor over the icon next to the address field,
I get a hand icon.  Clicking on it does absolutely nothing.  Would you
care to explain what I'm supposed to see so I can make the appropriate
bug report?  (Try testing it on your system to make absolutely certain
you're correct first, of course.)

Not having a window up and running while still being able to collect
email in the background leaps to mind.  Kind of the same reason why GAIM
can reduce the buddy list to an icon in the notification area, for
example.

I have an old 64MB USB key.  It fills rather rapidly.  I know that it's
full.  I don't need to be reminded constantly when using it.

It's the old story: if you get an error message for every tiny thing
that could possibly be slightly wrong, you get trained to ignore all
error messages.  Fundamentals of user interface design.
