Aside from the fact I don't care for Gnome, I loathe double-clicking on
the desktop to activate an icon. If I want that, I'll go back to
'Doze. ;-) How does one turn it off? I have looked at all items in
System | Preferences & have found nothing./
Start gconf-editor, go to apps->nautilus->preferences and change the key value of click_policy key to "single"
