Updating kernel keeps removing added OS from Grub menu.lst

I use ubuntu 5.10 in a dual boot configuration, Grub owns the MBR on the hard drive.

Kernel updates regenerate the menu.lst and remove the menu choice to dual boot. Is there a master list of known OS's the regeneration is referring to which I should add the dual boot OS to?

It does not seem to trash all of my settings in menu.lst, the delay stays 10, the colors are enabled, etc...
