It sounds like the configure script is complaining about missing Motif 
libraries (a idget set, not a graphics library).  Do you have the 
LessTif or Open Motif package (and dev-package) installed?  If not, you 
might try installing lesstif2 and lesstif2-dev packages (or libmotif3 
and libmotif-dev), and then running the configure script again.
