besides, im not looking into streaming files, im just looking into vcd and DVD playback..totem is great for audio playback, but for somereason it doesnt play back the files that it supports

I agree. Mplayer is the best player,also for the Streaming.
but I have a question,can anyone can help me,I will appreciate
the problem is if you had open a Mplayer ,when you open a video with Mplayer again,it wil open a new Mplaer window,how can make it open with the previous one?

I use mplayer for everything. You'll find it in multiverse. It's the
best player I know of, works with many drivers (ALSA, OSS, via SDL,
aalib, VESA, ..), and so on.
