Various Dapper Drake problems

1.  nm-applet isn't seeing either my 8139too ethernet or ipw2200 card.
 I get "No network devices can be found."

2.  When I boot with gtkwifi running and NetworkManager present,
wpasupplicant appears to block gtkwifi from running.  Shouldn't
gtkwifi and NetworkManager preclude each other in the dpkg
rules?

3.  The cpu frequency scaling monitor tells me that frequency scaling
is not enabled.  I am running the standard AMD K7 ubuntu kernel.
