Tunefs / Forcing fsck

Hi,
One of my harddisks here may be failing, or I may have a problem with the
kernel., not sure which
I'd like to force an fsck on the failing disk, before I attempt to recover
data from it. Looking through the manual page
for fsck I don't see any option for this.
When I run fsck, it reports the partition is clean and immediately returns.
I think I need to use tunefs to reset the clean flag, but
I can't find it anywhere on my system.. Where is it ?
