Not really Richard. English is missing some sounds that are often used
in other languages. Take poor Retief Goosen (top golf player) - his
surname has *NOTHING* to do with goose/geese of whatever.. problem is
that the way we pronounce this "G" has no equivalent (AFAIK) in the
English language.
I dislike people getting my surname wrong. Can only imagine Retief's
frustration having his surname slaughtered like that.. and the animal
association that is created by English speakers that are clueless
about any other language than their own..
So at least what people can do is show little respect for other
languages (and cultures) and attempt to pronounce the name correctly..
