CD burning

If it's the official one, how, exactly, does it work?  I've never been
able to get it to burn a CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, etc. even
once.  I've been using Gnomebaker because of that.  I'd love to use
Nautilus instead if I could figure out what I'm supposed to do with it.
