[Dapper] How to get mounted disk show on the desktop

Very true :-) Sometimes it's better to use the quick way that works 
right now instead of TheRightWay(tm)

sudo gpasswd -a <username> lp
will assign you permanent membership to group lp. Close all shells and 
logout from gnome for it to take effect. 

But how does rebooting work around this?
