Yes, that's possible but normally not advisable.

I don't know. Terabytes, I'd suppose. It depends on th file system,
though. <http://web.archive.org/web/20041010002049/http://students.ee.sun.ac.za/linux/admin/apas04.html#tab:maxsize>,
which is from 2004, indicates, that XFS can handle up to 8 EB. That
should suffice most of the time, I'd think :)
