IPv6 interface config support in Ubuntu?

Hi there.
Having looked at /etc/network/interfaces and read the doco on it and on
ifup/ifdown, I'm still mystified as to how I would get Ubunto to
configure an IPv6 address on an interface. Early experiments have been
failures :-)
Getting the protocol onto the interface is no problem, Ubunto does IPv6
at that level "out of the box" I am talking about configuring site-local
or global addresses.
I can do this manually using ifconfig or ip, I'm interested in how to
automate it properly within the Ubuntu framework.
Regards, K.
