Audio volume too low on HP dv1000 with Totem movie player

Hi,
 I had a similar problem.
Do you have mplayer installed? I found that at one stage I had adjusted 
the volume slider in mplayer  down, and it caused volume in Totem to be 
low.
Raising the volume in mplayer fixed the problem.
