Try "smart upgrade" in Synaptic, or "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade"
It may be that there are new/replacement packages - if so the normal
upgrade will skip them. For instance, apt wanyed to hold my kernel
2.6.15-23 when -25 was available: - "dist-upgrade" pulled in the new
kernel.
Another approach, if that fails, is to run "sudo apt-get -f install " to
see if the system needs to uninstall/ reinstall conflicting packages.
