Whether it goes smoothly depends on (1) the method being correct, and
(2) the repository of the new dist to be consistent.
You achieved (1), but in the current state of edgy, it is to be expected
that its repository is broken: the package merge from sid is in full

You probably chose a better time for upgrading breezy to dapper.
If you want to run edgy at this point, be prepared to handle broken
dependencies manually. You should also be able to recover from an
unbootable machine, and you should not depend on this machine.
