sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

if you're running xorg, or

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

if you're running XFree86, etc. In general, to figure out
which xserver you're running, do something like

dpkg --get-selections |grep '^xserver' |grep -v 'deinstall\|purge' |cut -f1
