Just my two cents here:

I find kino easier to use. But I feel like cinelerra has more features 
(like fade-outs and special effects). Since I only do simple stuff (dv 
camera captures, selecting pieces of a longer video, etc.) I prefer to 
use kino.

Also, if you need to burn to dvd after editing, take a look at dvdauthor.
