No Wifi with Custom Kernel

I am trying to get my iPod working, and in the process I had to compile
a custom kernel (see iPod issues thread). So far, my kernel builds,
installs and boots, but looses wifi in the process (and doesn't fix my
iPod, by the way). :(

Anyway, I am trying to tackle one thing at the time: Do I need a
separate modules, aside from the linux-source to compile the kernel with
support for Intel Celeron integrated Wifi? Right now, I am using only
the linux-source package.

My wifi works perfectly with the stock ubuntu kernel or the 686 kernel
(2.6.15.23 or 2.6.15.25), but dmesg says the following when booting with
my custom kernel:

[17179589.872000] agpgart: Detected an Intel 855PM Chipset.
[17179591.168000] ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network

[17179591.168000] ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation
[17179591.168000] Warning: PCI driver ipw2200 has a struct device_driver
shutdown method, please update!
[17179591.392000] ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network

[17179591.780000] ipw2200: ipw2200-bss.fw request_firmware failed: Reason -2
[17179591.780000] ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: -2
[17179591.780000] ipw2200: failed to register network device
[17179591.780000] ipw2200: probe of 0000:02:0b.0 failed with error -5

Any ideas?

Also, my custom kernel built as version 2.6.15.17. I figured I somehow
downloaded and old source, so I cleared the apt-get cache, updated and
reinstalled and built again. Now the version is 2.6.15.7. What is this
about and should I be concerned?

Thanks for the help,
