Ubuntu 6.06 - Still problem with locales (in gnome-terminal)

As ~ was kept, I tried to find out, if there is a config in a dot-dir, but 
didn't succeed.
Additionally, I am not able to set ISO as standard  in gnome-terminal and/or 
delete this ansi-crap via menu.
