The default screen reader is gnopernicus with the festival speech 
engine.  It is very much a work in progress.  Also, many applications 
are not ready for a screen reader yet.  You should use a full keyboard 
with a number pad to control gnopernicus, so don't try it with a 
laptop.  Make sure festival is installed, and enable the screen reader 
in your preferences.  You should then log out and back in again.
