WHAAAT?!?
Try Hylafax. Works like an absolute charm. You can print to a "fax
printer" out of OpenOffice (admittedly I haven't got that to work yet,
but I'm on an old version of OO), or print to and send PS, PDF and TIFF
files, or anything you can convert to those formats. You can arrange to
have received faxes simply stored, or you can automatically print
anything that arrives. The cool thing is that Hylafax is a fax *server*,
so anyone on your network (or the Internet if you want ;-) can fax
through the same pc/modem. There are Windows GUI clients for Hylafax,
too.
I have Hylafax installed and am happily sending and receiving faxes.
Installing it was very straightforward, I just followed the instructions
with the package. Working out OO was harder, but only because it wasn't
obvious. Once you know the trick, it isn't difficult.
There are other fax packages for Linux, but Hylafax seems the most
advanced and comprehensive.
Regards, K.
