Sound should "just work", so I suspect a problem with Ubuntu. I don't
have a solution, but I can think of some things that might at least give
us more information:
* Open a terminal and run gstreamer-properties then click on Test. Let's
try to get that test sound working first. The default is "autodetect"
which should work, but you can try one of the other options to see if
they make any difference.
* I doubt that the problem is with volume, but run gnome-volume-control
just in case.
* Go to System -> Administration -> Device Manager. Try to find your
sound card. On my system it says "Sound Controller". AFAIK it doesn't
matter what it is as long as Ubuntu knows that it's there.

Don't know :(
I'll think about this once we get sound working.
Cheers,
Daniel.
