Are you trying to install Ubuntu or Xubuntu?

Xubuntu is a bit more light weight than Ubuntu with the whole Gnome
thing.  The Latitude LS is not exactly a powerhouse, so you may want to
give Xunbuntu a try if you have not already:

I am assuming the the line
-SDRAM 25M-
was a typo and you really meant 256M, else you are not going to find
many (any?) distibutions to will run a graphical interface in 25M RAM. 
I have installed Xubuntu sucessfully on a Latitude LS 256M RAM.
