Sucess with dual monitors

Some of you may remember that in late April I was struggling to
get a second monitor working as an extension of the screen on my
Dell Inspiron 510m laptop, failed to succeed, and gave up.
Recently, I bought a new external monitor (Acer model AL1717), so
getting it to work moved to the top of my priority list.

I am delighted to report that I have been successful. I lost
track of how many times I crashed X and then studied the error
message and tried to work out what was wrong and how to fix it.
Heh... I had to kiss a lot of frogs before I found a prince. ;-)

The main thing I changed in the xorg.conf file was to add the
following line to each of the "Device" sections:

Option "MonitorLayout" "CRT,LFP"

I got that hint from someone's sample file. I forget whose; I
looked at a lot of them today.

That was the biggest remaining problem I had with using Ubuntu
full-time. Did I say I'm excited? :-D

Cheers, Jean
