2006/6/17, OOzy Pal <oozypal at gmail.com>:
Let's see... To do _web design_, I personally use Bluefish. It's
comfortable (after you learn the basic keycombos you become much more
productive), it's feature-full, it's not heavy. There's Screem too,
for GNOME, which I haven't looked at but which seems to include a
console (useful for php and script programming).
There's Quanta for the Kfans, but I'm not.
Finally, for lots of programming tasks that don't involve much
GUI-ing, like C/C++/Java/Python programming or the like, I use vim.
It's solid, it's indentation and colorization are excellent, it's
light, and its interface is constrained comfortably in an 80x25 term,
allowing me to read a webpage or document next to it.
There are other editors, certainly. Vim is the one I like best. It's
definitely not for those who don't want to learn, but after a few
days, it's irreplaceable.
As for links, the ones I have are (apart from installing and running vimtutor):

Enjoy.
