The tools "play" (contained in package "sox" (from universe)) and
"aplay" (contained in package "alsa-utils") are both very light weight.
play can optionally benefit from sox' conversion and effect facilities,
whereas aplay knows more about alsa features. But when you call with
just a filename as an argument, they both just play the file and exit.
