I'm looking for a fat client that boots up using NFS. LTSP is intended
for thin clients. Anyways, I tried installing LTSP on Ubuntu 6.06 and
thin clients work flawlessly.

Following your instructions, I tried installing ubuntu-desktop into
the chroot in order to try getting a fat client installed inside.
However, when booting the client, gdm complains about permission
problems with /var/lib/gdm not being owned by user root, group gdm
(which is false, since /opt/ltsp/i386/var/lib/gdm is root:gdm), then a
graphical login screen comes up but this login screen takes me to the
LTSP server instead of running a full X session locally in the client.

Any ideas?
