You'll probably find a half-dozen or more (I'd bank on the latter)
pastebinned asoundrcs that document myriad quirks that have to be
present in ~/.asoundrc for Skype to "work."

No need to configure alsa per se. You just need to configure the default
card.

It invokes asoundconf(1).
What you want to do is configure ~/.asoundrc* properly. First,
$ asoundconf list
will return a [string] list of cards that you would use with asoundconf,
so if executing the above command returns A and B (on separate
newlines), and you want to use B as the default card, you'd use
$ asoundconf set-default-card B
