External Hard drive with Ubuntu

Hi there,
I still haven't gotten a response for this question.
I installed Ubuntu 5.1 onto a usb hard drive. Is there a way to boot from
it?
I do not have Ubuntu on my computer's internal drive, but wanted to try it.
My motherboard does support usb booting. The thing is though, Grub cant
mount
the drive or something like that. Any thoughts?
