There is a program called gnome-splashscreen-manager in the
repositories. Install it, then use it to change your GNOME splashscreen
to whatever you want. Don't know though were KDE stores its splash
screens, but I guess you can find your favourite one on
http://www.kde-look.org , save it and use it.
