I understand what you really want: a hardware solution.  I doubt there 
is such a thing.

but I can offer this: you shouldn't need to reboot unless you have 
upgraded the kernel. 

as for config changes, those should be sub second.  I can see it /maybe/ 
dropping a connection, but I can't see how the hardware solution would 
be any different. 

I think your best bet is to limit/plan the outages.
