dapper installation problem

Hi All,

I am attempting to install Dapper on my pc but as I progress through the
steps in the installer in stalls at the Select a Disk screen.  The
window Starting up the partitioner opens but stops when it reaches 50%.
I hav let it run for several hours just to see if just took that long
but to no avail.  The PC I am installing it on currently is running
Windows XP and I was going to dual boot.  XP is on an SATA disk and I
was going to install Dapper on a PATA disk.  I previously had Hoary
installed and running without issue.  I have tried the upgrade, with the
correct install disk, and I tried deleting all linux partitions and
starting clean.  The Hoary install still goes fine but Dapper won't.

PC specs
2800 Athlon
512mb ram
radeon 9600 
gigabyte 7NNXP motherboard, bios version F20
onboard sound
onboard network
ps/2 mouse and keyboard

If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful to hear them.
