Synaptec connection problem

You may have the same problem I did.  Check /etc/apt/apt.conf.  Is there 
a proxy entry there?  Some like "Proxy::http::false"?  (I don't have the 
exact syntax in front of me.  If so, remove that line.  I believe it's 
telling apt to connect through a proxy named "false", which of course, 
doesn't exist.
